Privacy
This site is a fan-run tracker and record book. We collect as little as we can, we don't sell anything about you, and this page says plainly what is collected and by whom.
| Page-view analytics | We use Google Analytics 4 and our own lightweight counter to see which pages are read, from what kind of device and from what referring site. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes your IP address (anonymised) and device information under Google's privacy policy. Our own counter stores a random visitor identifier, page path, referrer and browser type in a database we control (Supabase, U.S.). Neither is used to identify you by name. |
| The reader poll and comments | If you vote or leave a comment, we store your choice, the comment text, the optional name you type, a random voter identifier kept in your browser, and a hashed (one-way) form of your IP address used only to limit repeat voting. Comments are public. Email us to have a comment removed. |
| The tip form | What you type into the "send a tip" form — including your email if you give it — is delivered to us by Netlify Forms and emailed to the site owner so we can follow up. It is not published unless you ask us to credit you. |
| Embedded content | Pages embed Facebook page feeds, map tiles from OpenStreetMap, weather layers (RainViewer, Open-Meteo) and the crews' own tracker data. Those services may set their own cookies or log your IP address when their content loads; they are governed by their own privacy policies. |
| Advertising | If ads are shown, they are served by Google AdSense or a similar network. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info. |
| Affiliate links | Some outbound product links may carry an affiliate tag; the retailer (for example Amazon) may set a cookie to attribute a purchase. See our disclosure. |
We use browser storage for conveniences only: remembering that you voted in the poll, which map layers you turned on, and a random visitor ID for our page counter. Google Analytics and any ad network set their own cookies as described above. You can clear or block cookies in your browser; the site keeps working without them.
We don't sell or rent personal information. We don't build profiles. We don't run cross-site tracking of our own. We don't collect payment details — the site has nothing to buy.
You can browse without voting, commenting or sending tips. You can block analytics with your browser's tracking protection or an extension. If you're in the EU/UK, California or another jurisdiction with data-protection rights, you may ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to processing — email naber.mark@gmail.com and we'll respond within 30 days. Because we hold almost nothing identifiable, most requests come down to deleting a comment or a tip email.
The site is not directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Hosting is on Netlify and Supabase in the United States. Page-view rows and poll data are kept while the site operates; tip emails are kept until the story they relate to is closed. We may keep aggregate, non-identifying statistics indefinitely.
If this policy changes, the effective date at the top changes with it. Questions: naber.mark@gmail.com.
