greatlooprecord.site started in July 2026 as a two-boat map so friends could follow Robert Youens and David Barber's record runs on one screen. It grew, run by run, into the record book for a sport that has no governing body: every recognised Great Loop speed record by category, every attempt tracked live against the record-holder's real pace, and a page for each boat and crew.
The site is built and maintained by Mark Naber of Milwaukee, Wisconsin — a boater and fan, not a competitor, sponsor or official. It is not affiliated with the America's Great Loop Cruisers' Association (AGLCA), Guinness World Records, or any crew or manufacturer featured here. Crews send in their attempts through the tip form; nobody pays to be listed and nobody can pay to be left off.
There is no sanctioning body for Great Loop speed records. We list a mark when it is documented by a public GPS track, the crew's own account, and published reporting — and we say on every page what the sources are and what is unverified. Category matters: a crewed 40-foot Contender and a solo jon boat are different sports, so we keep outright, solo, single-engine, personal-watercraft and jon-boat marks separate. Where a claim is disputed (whether a run with a teammate alongside counts as "solo," for instance) we print the dispute rather than settle it, and we poll readers.
Live attempts are read from the crews' own trackers (Garmin MapShare, Nebo, Hefring and similar) and compared, mile for mile, with the record-holders' actual GPS pace from the same starting point. Projections and odds on the dials are estimates, clearly labelled as such.
We correct fast and say so. If a time, a name, a boat or a claim on this site is wrong, email naber.mark@gmail.com or use the tip form. Official times supplied by a crew replace tracker-derived estimates as soon as we have them.
